The Word
I don't know if anyone can help me on this one, it might be a bit of a long shot, I don't know.
I think, though I'm not sure that the theme tune to The Word, that was on Channel 4 around 14 years ago was written by 808 State, if it was, has anyone heard of it and can anyone tell me what the tune was called?

Hmm, well I have a version of Olympic, but perhaps not the one which you refer to and I know "In Yer Face", but it's all so long ago now... I think the Olympic one sounds more like it. I'll have to see if I can get hold of some of these versions you refer to.
Thanks so much for your help!

Cloned Tracks
808 used to employ a technique of cloning tracks:
This involves using an existing track as a backing track and building a new track on top, when this has reached a significant stage, they remove the original track and remix the remaining song.
For the most obvious use of this, listen to Lambrusco Cowboy which should really be titled - CUBIK (Lambrusco Cowboy Mix)
Markus is of course correct to say the theme to The Word was an Olympic Remix

PS does anyone remember Rod Hull & Emu on the show, Mark Lamarr tells a fantastic story about the end of that show involving Rod

Pete I think you'll find that's a very Anti-United statement you're making.
I believe Emu was Liverpool fan and had refused to help him!
Pete, didn't you used to go out with a Grotbags look-a-like?
Rod Hull on The Word -
If I remember correctly Rod & Emu were on the sofa with Snoop and Lamarr, they had been watching a band perform and when the cameras turned back Snoop had stood up and Rod wasn't to be seen.... Apparently Rod did the Emu attack on Snoop and was for the last few minutes of the show, pinned to the floor with Snoop's boot on his neck.... Americans, no sense of humour at all!

Anyway, it's definitely the track "Olympic" in some form or another - either the Eurobass mix or The Word mix - there were different variants of the theme tune throughout the years.
Unless I was watching a different programme, I don't believe "In Yer Face" was ever the theme tune to The Word?

There was somebody on the roof! Rod Hull Comic genius, rest his soul. I have an auntie that looks like grotbags, except she's not green. err, never mind.
I think the music on the word was basically the Eurobass mix of Olympic as Pete identified. The version released in 93 or the word mix, was a faster version I think, but still had the basic tune with a faster beat.
Full moon??? could Jessica be Grotbags in disguise come on the board and positng a discussion topic that cleverly get us round to talking about Rod Hull and Emu in order to try and ressurect her career by eventually offering to appear in a new 808 video which features lots of small children and a large crocodile???
Phew, those mushrooms I had for tea were strong, I don't feel so good.....
Hoi and no anti-United statements Pete, since the Gooners now can't do treble hah! oh sorry I suppose thats anti arse(nal) really, ooopsy!

Somewhere in my loft I have an unreleased and unbroadcast 808 remix of The Word theme. It sticks in my mind because - despite being about 30 seconds long - it is absoltely amazing, kick-ass stuff.
It was recorded for series 4 but was rejected in favour of an in-house remix, as Steve C mentioned. I'll probably be moving house this year so I expect the tape will come to light then!...
